Live Online Training – Best Practices for Handling Employee Illness, Accommodations and Leaves

September 20, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

Trainers – Dan Condon and Christine Ashton

Our Employer Webinar Series provides employers with value-added seminars by discussing best practices, going through practical examples, and providing sample documents. As part of this ongoing and popular Series, we will be providing a webinar on handling employee illnesses, accommodations, and leaves of absence.

Employers have an obligation to grant employees time off (e.g. due to a family emergency), to accommodate employees (e.g. in regards to religious beliefs), and to allow a leave of absence (e.g. in regards to a disability). When an employee advises that they require time off, accommodation in the workplace, or to be placed on a leave of absence, employers are entering a potential minefield. It is important that employers take the proper steps to ensure that they understand the request, that the request is properly made, and that the request is properly considered. If an employer fails to properly consider employee requests, they can find themselves facing a human rights complaint, a Ministry of Labour complaint, and/or a civil claim.

To assist supervisors, managers, and HR staff in regards to these issues, Wilson Vukelich LLP is providing a best practices webinar.

During this webinar you will learn about:

  • how to properly handle accommodation and sick leave requests
  • how to properly investigate whether time off, accommodation, or a leave is required and continues to be required
  • how to avoid a human rights complaint
  • how to properly address time off, accommodations and leaves in company policies
